Comprehensive compilation of hazards
The hazard catalog is a product of the national hazard analysis ‘Risks Switzerland’. It is a compilation, intended to be as comprehensive and, when necessary, adaptable as possible, of events and developments that may affect the general public and its livelihood now and in the future. The catalog of hazards offers an overview, designed for maximum inclusiveness, of all conceivable events and developments without prioritizing them.
Defining hazard in the context of ‘Risks Switzerland’
A hazard is defined as an event or development with natural, technical, or societal (including power political) causes that could be detrimental to the general public or its livelihood.
Extending the hazard catalog
In the interests of clarity, the hazard catalog is structured into three parts:
- Natural hazards
- Technical hazards
- Social hazards (including hazards emanating from power politics)
The hazards enumerated in these categories are structured according to content, but not listed in order of importance.
Purpose
The hazard catalog serves as an inventory of potential hazards without assessment. It is aimed at all interested parties in politics and the public administration, the private sector, academia, and the general public dealing with questions of security and risks.
